Guccissima is one of the house's smartest material innovations from the 2000s: rather than printing the double G on canvas, Gucci heat-embosses it directly into the leather, creating a relief monogram that only appears as light glides across it. The result is ambivalent — the brand is everywhere and nowhere at the same time, legible to those who recognize it, discreet to those who do not look for it. It is this ambiguous reading that made the success of Guccissima and explains why these pieces continue to be sought after on the second-hand market, at a time when visible logos have returned in full force.
This shopping tote is a particularly successful iteration. The 38 × 27 × 13 cm format makes it a true daytime tote — designed to hold the contents of a work week without losing its shape: small iPad, planner, glasses case, cosmetic bag, long wallet, phone. The two leather handles allow for hand or shoulder carry as needed, and — a precious detail — the side rings allow for the addition of a shoulder strap (not included) for crossbody wear. The choice of silver-tone hardware rather than gold-tone is a less frequent signature on Gucci pieces of the time: it makes the bag more contemporary, more urban, and less "classic luxury." The hanging GG charm, in dark resin encircled in silver, finishes the piece like a branded keychain.
The piece is in beautiful overall condition. The Guccissima leather is well-maintained, the corners are clean, the handles are in good condition, and the silver-tone hardware shows no notable damage. The double-slider zip works normally. There are slight signs of general use distributed throughout, consistent with a carried and cared-for bag, with no major defects to report.
